Submission on TransPac Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement
LIAC responded to a call for submissions by MFAT, on the negotiations with the United States and others to extend the Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement. LIAC recommended that New Zealand’s current domestic policy settings should be defended as firmly as possible in the forthcoming Trans-Pacific Agreement negotiations and drafted a submission accordingly.
Digital Development Forum Presentation
Paul Alexander, executive director of the Digital Development Council, gave LIAC an update on to the New Zealand Digital Development Council and Forum.
National Digital Heritage Archive
Steve Knight presented LIAC with an update of whole-of-domain harvesting and other issues in the National Digital Heritage Archive so far.
Copyright Legislation
LIAC discussed Section 96 of the copyright legislation. LIAC believe that moving information from the cultural realm to the economic realm was not appropriate and that analogue and digital rights should be equal. LIAC advises that Section 92 should be readdressed. The copying of video recordings for personal use should be permitted. LIAC will maintain an interest in copyright issues in 2009
