Communiqué from LIAC meeting of 19 April 2004
The Library and Information Advisory Commission met in Wellington on 19 April 2004. Commissioners were sorry to hear that Diana Kelly had resigned following her retirement.
Commissioners were pleased to be able to meet with the Minister Responsible for the National Library, Hon Marian Hobbs, following their meeting.
The Minister confirmed LIAC’s vision statement “Aotearoa-New Zealand: a leading information democracy”, terms of reference and a work plan.
Other particular items of interest discussed during the meeting were: the concept of LIAC as a resource to groups with similar aims and objectives; the National Digital Forum 2004; the role of public libraries as “information infomediaries” , the Next Generation Internet and the Ministry of Economic Development’s national digital strategy. The group will be following up these issues as the opportunity arises.
LIAC will meet again in July.
