Legislation
LIAC has been established as a permanent body under the National Library (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) Act 2003 and can choose what avenues it wishes to explore (provided they are within the parameters of the Act).
Part 3 of the National Library of New Zealand (Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa) Act 2003 defines LIAC’s role as to advise and report to the Minister on:
- library and information issues in New Zealand , including mātauranga Māori, and access to library and information services; and
- the role of library and information services, including mātauranga Māori, in the cultural and economic life of New Zealand; and
- any other matters requested by the Minister.
The National Library of New Zealand provides the adminsitrative services for LIAC.
